My Favorite Creation

August 13, 2012 by Laura 2 Comments

It all started when I was asked to help plan and officiate a wedding for a good friend. Their theme is…wait for it…The Nightmare Before Christmas!!!!! EEEEEKKKK!! How FUN is that?! Of course I started scouring Pinterest immediately for ideas and inspiration. Did you know the hours go by even faster when you’re searching for something specific on that site?

Yeah, so among all the great wedding ideas I found a few fabulous Halloween projects for myself. My favorite find was a tutorial on how to make a life-size Jack Skellington from Running with Scissors. It seemed like quite a bit of work but doable so I was ALL OVER IT! With a couple trips to various craft & hardware stores one weekend we gathered all the necessary supplies with the exception of pin striped material for his clothes. Who knew THAT would be the hardest thing to find? After striking out at a couple local fabric stores I ended up ordering the material online and even then there was a surprisingly small pool of options.

I did take a few photos of the construction but since I’m not doing a tutorial I’ll spare you those. I must say this project took more time and patience than any other project I’ve done to date. I have VERY little patience so I surprised even myself that I didn’t rush…this was intended to be a nice project, not my normal “slop” crafting. Although a good portion of it is paper mache so it is a bit of slop crafting still. 🙂 Plus, with two little ones a good portion of this was done in bits and pieces during naps or with a baby on my hip.

Without further ado, please welcome the newest addition to our home – Mr. Jack Skellington!

I had a great time showing Jack around the house. Stay tuned for more photos of the “Adventures of Jack!”

Thanks!! I posted some photos on FB too (they are scheduled to post here in the next few days). I started this blog awhile back to have a place to post things as I was deciding what to do with the family blog. =)
