Hi, I’m Laura. This site is my little slice of cyberspace where I share whatever comes to mind – tutorials, projects I’m working on, recipes, etc. Maybe a bit of family or personal stuff, if I’m so inclined.
I am a wife, mother, avid crafter/DIYer/maker/designer/developer at Candyland Studio, and American Sign Language advocate addicted to the internet, Facebook, and Pinterest. I’m obsessed with the IDEA of doing and making lots of things, but I suffer from “creative A.D.D.” so I tend to have LOTS of projects in progress at any given time. My creativity is fueled by copious amounts of chocolate and coconut oil, which I believe to be the secret of life.
I’m the kind of girl that if my husband hands me a crisp $100 bill and whispers, “Go buy yourself something pretty” I’d come home with buckets of glitter and rhinestones, which is why my workshop is better stocked than my wardrobe. My nails are more likely to be tipped in hot glue than a French manicure, and most of my time is spent in front of a computer with multiple monitors and eleventy-billion tabs open.
I call myself a Creative Freelancer because it’s the best title I’ve found so far that describes the bulk of what I do professionally since leaving the corporate world of accounting and finance. I design, develop, craft, create, laser engrave, consult, and plan…I’m a little bit of a lot of things, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a one-size-fits-all title for me. I’m kind of a Professional Maker of Stuff, but that doesn’t sound very dignified now does it? My professional self needed an official title to use when people ask me what I do – you know, to keep my creative self from just saying “Uh, I make and plan and design stuff…” Since I take on a variety of custom projects, Creative Freelancer it is! 😉
I love what I do and I’m very lucky to have such an opportunity that allows me to stay home with my family. This also means I have a lot less face-to-face adult interaction than when I worked outside of the house. Blogging is a fun way for me to connect with all you lovely people via the Internet and possibly save my sanity when I’ve had my fill of playing Daniel Tiger and watching Paw Patrol for the day. =)
